What we fund

Neurodegenerative diseases of ageing – those associated with an age-related loss of neurons in the central nervous system – have a devastating impact on individual and family lives. The knock-on effect on wider society, particularly in the health and care sectors, is huge. And yet, they are amongst the most undertreated diseases in the world.

Our foundation addresses these issues by providing targeted funding in two specific areas:

Research that enables and hastens progress towards better diagnosis, treatments and cures.

Support programmes and initiatives that enable people affected by these diseases to live dignified and fulfilling lives, and ease the burden on their carers.

Case studies

“It takes a lot of work to make sure that funding goes to the right place. That’s why The Galen and Hilary Weston Foundation adopts a very strategic approach of looking for the 'white spaces' that need to be addressed, with a view to enabling other research efforts to move forward more effectively and efficiently. We focus on innovation because it’s about looking at the best thing to invest in to have the greatest possible impact on human health.”
